RooneyWayne Rooney says Chelsea’s title hopes could be fatally damaged if they lose Sunday’s Premier League game at Old Trafford.

“If we can win, that would be Chelsea getting one point from nine in their last three games,” Rooney told MUTV.

“You never know what that might do to their confidence,” added the striker, who was speaking before Jose Mourinho’s departure from Stamford Bridge.

“A chance to go three points in front of them makes it a massive game.”

Wayne Rooney made his comeback against Sporting Lisbon after recovering from his broken metatarsal. Although a below par performance from United, they won the game 1-0 from a second half Ronaldo header. Rooney was taken off after the goal to rest him for United’s clash with Chelsea on Sunday.

At the end of the England game against Russia, Steve McClaren had a real problem on his hands; His forced changes to the team worked really well…a little too well. It left the problem of fitting Rooney back into the England team.

However during Wigan’s match with Fulham 3 days later the God of football seemed to sort things out for the england manager. Part of the way into the match Heskey landed awkwardly and incurred the same metatarsal injury that kept Rooney out in the first place. Now is that unlucky or what!
