Rooney: Nike boots not the problem
Filed Under England, Man Utd | Leave a Comment
Rooney is sure that his metatarsal injuries are not down to his Nike football boots.
“What has happened to me is just one of those things.”
“In our game, you can get defenders stamping on your feet and, unfortunately for me, it has happened three times and I have broken something three times.”
“I know there has been a lot of talk about the boots. A lot of professionals who played the game years ago have been talking about them.” “They are not running out in the boots, they do not know what they are like.”

Wayne Rooney believes he is not an automatic starter for England and insists he must work hard for his club to get back in to the National team.
The Manchester United striker has missed England’s last three games through a metatarsal injury - the third of his young career.
And Rooney has said he is concentrating on his club form, but is hopeful of regaining his place in the national team.
“My priority at the moment has to be Manchester United so all I am concentrating on at the moment is getting myself 100 per cent fit and doing well for my club,”

England’s bad luck with injuries continues as it looks like Michael Owen could be out for up to 2 months. Owen will undergo groin surgery on Friday after he was substituted for Newcastle with his continuing hernia problem.
This means that the England front two will again be different from the last 2 qualifiers. England always seem to have the problem of unfit/suspended strikers when it comes to their games.

It may be that Maclaren decides to try and fit Lampard back into the side, but considering how well the formation and players performed in the last 2 games, I think that is unwise.

At the end of the England game against Russia, Steve McClaren had a real problem on his hands; His forced changes to the team worked really well…a little too well. It left the problem of fitting Rooney back into the England team.
However during Wigan’s match with Fulham 3 days later the God of football seemed to sort things out for the england manager. Part of the way into the match Heskey landed awkwardly and incurred the same metatarsal injury that kept Rooney out in the first place. Now is that unlucky or what!

Steve McClaren’s Rooney dilemma
Filed Under England | Leave a Comment
Steve McClaren has a problem. A very nice one, admittedly, but a problem nonetheless. By the time Estonia turn up at Wembley on Oct 13, the England coach, it would appear, must have worked out how to squeeze three strikers into his starting XI. To put it plainly, he has somehow got to find a way of incorporating Michael Owen, Emile Heskey and Wayne Rooney in the same side.
