In an interview, Sir Alex Ferguson admits that Rooney has a lot more potential then he have been able to show so far:

“Sometimes he’s too much of a team player, not a selfish player, not a selfish boy.

“He’s a committed winner. That’s his problem. So he does a lot of sacrifice which doesn’t reflect on his overall performance but as a team player he’s absolutely fantastic.

“He says to me sometimes ‘I can play centre-half’. He’s said that half a dozen times to me - ‘I’ll play centrehalf.

I played centre-half at school you know!’ “Then I say to him, ‘Yes Wayne, but we’re playing against Drogba!’ It’s not a trouble or a problem with him, it’s a fantastic asset he’s got.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a move to the Spanish gigant, Real Madrid after telling Spanish television that he might consider his future in Manchester United and Wayne Rooney promise to do what he can to have him staying.

The two players have scored 59 goals between them this season.

“I hope the partnership will continue for years. Ronaldo is a great player and it will be brilliant if we can keep him at the club for as long as possible. He’s an unbelievable player.”

“For Ronaldo to score those goals is helping the team. I’ve got no problem if he scores 60 goals in a season and I don’t get anywhere near that,” added the England striker who has struck 18 times this term.

rooney1.jpgRooney has revealed that wearing the number 10 shirt at Utd is spurring him forward to be like the previous “number 10 greats”.
These include Denis Law, Mark Hughes and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

“They were all greats who scored so many goals for the club so I knew what a big number it was for me,” he said.

“But that history makes wearing the shirt feel even better and also makes it more of a challenge to succeed.”

“When Ruud left and no one took it the following season I asked if I could have the shirt. I had to wait a year until the new kit came out but as soon as that happened I was given it, which was great.”

Wayne Rooney insists Manchester United have what it takes to win both the Barclays Premier League and Champions League this season. After winning the premieship last season, the young striker is keen to double up from last year and go one further to win the Champions League.

“In an ideal world, we would win both,” said Rooney, whose side tasted domestic glory but failed in Europe last term.
