Late Rooney & Ronaldo goals win game for Utd
Filed Under Cups
Manchester Utd won 2-0 in the FA cup 3rd round game at Villa Park. The game started end to end, but quickly got messy as both Villa and Utd showed their tiredness from the extensive festive fixture list. Neither team could string more than 2 passes together.
The only chances of the first half were when Anderson got clear through on the left, and his shot was saved by Carson, plus a curling Ronaldo shot which was parried into the path of an unsuspecting Giggs, who shot wide.
The 2nd half stated much the same, but an appearance from Rooney in the last 20 mins of the game sparked life into the team. Within minutes he made a pass to Ronaldo from the halfway line and met the returning pass in the box, just missing with his shot over the crossbar.
With 9 minutes to go Ronaldo turned in Gigg’s cross. Then Rooney then provided a superb finish with a minute left, firing across Scott Carson from 20 yards as United sealed a place in the FA Cup fourth round.
