“Let me play!” says Rooney

Wayne Rooney is desperate to play in Wednesday night’s Carling Cup third round tie with Coventry.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to shuffle his pack for the Old Trafford encounter with a number of players on the fringes of the squad likely to play a role.

However, Rooney - who is still regaining match fitness following his recovery from a broken foot - has pleaded with Ferguson to allow him to play.

“Wayne Rooney’s been in my ear wanting to play,” Ferguson told Manchester United Radio

“He wants to play, he wants to be the captain, he wants to take the penalties, the corners, the free-kicks, the goal-kicks, the lot.”

Ferguson has also revealed how much he is looking forward to the meeting with Coventry.

“There is a real buzz about the place and we are really looking forward to it,” Ferguson added.

“It will be a fantastic atmosphere and I am sure Coventry will have a real go. From what I am led to believe, they are bringing over 10,000 fans with them.

“They were one of the longest-serving top-flight clubs at one point but they have been out of the Premier League now, which probably explains the attraction. It should be a real cup tie.”

    at last, sir alex did not field him and MU out of competition. Maybe Sir Alex think they can score 10-0. Wrong decision made. We are very disappointed.
