England’s bad luck with injuries continues as it looks like Michael Owen could be out for up to 2 months. Owen will undergo groin surgery on Friday after he was substituted for Newcastle with his continuing hernia problem.

This means that the England front two will again be different from the last 2 qualifiers. England always seem to have the problem of unfit/suspended strikers when it comes to their games.

It looks like Maclaren will have to select another strike partner for Rooney who only sealed his place due to Heskey’s injury.
It may be that Maclaren decides to try and fit Lampard back into the side, but considering how well the formation and players performed in the last 2 games, I think that is unwise.

There are a number of Striker options available. I have picked out a few below:

1) Johnson

2) Defoe

3) Ashton

4) Bent

They are all good strikers, but only Ashton has scored in the Premiership this season. He is back from injury and looking oon good form. I think he will be selected to be in the England squad at least.

Defoe is England’s most natural goal scorer after Owen, but dissapointingly he only gets sub appearances for Spurs. He finds his form fast though and still got a good number of goals + assists last season. Bent, now also playing for Spurs has had less play as well.

Finally Johnson has not had the fine start to the season he did last year, but still puts a lot of work in and runs at defenders.

So, I reckon that at lest one of the above will be in the squad along with Crouch, who always seems to be there now without having to prove himself.

What are your thoughts?…………..
