Rooney scores, but England lose in Moscow
Filed Under England
England were left devastated after the 2-1 lose to Russia this afternoon. Rooney put England ahead with a spectacular 29th-minute volley in the first half in a game that they dominated. Steven Gerrard missed a great chance to put them 2-0 up, before Rooney fouled Konstanin Zurianov leading to a penalty and a yellow card. Zurianov put away the penalty on 69 mins and then scored again 4 mins later, after an error by Paul Robinson.
This leaves Englands fate in the hands of their rivals Israel and Andorra. If one of these teams can take points off Russia (who have a game in hand to England), and England beat Croatia, they may still reach the Euro 2008 finals next summer.
Rooney’s goal video to follow….

rooney did a good job. Should be no penalty for Russia as no contact inside the box. Referee made a wrong decision. Israel will win the next match with Russia, and all of England supporters around the world will waiting for 17 Nov to see.
england still the best. rooney proved his ability. euro 2008 will lose a lot (popularity, etc) without england team in the final
We trust in you England.
england f.a must make a complaint to FIFA regarding a controversy of penalty given to Russia. At least they can share a point. Unjusticed result for England.
2Soccerfan: All the same you will change nothing it. The main thing to beat Croatia well and Russia will lose for euro if gets there
