Rooney scored his first competitive international goal since 2004 in their Euro 2008 qualifier at Wembley.

Shaun Wright-Phillips was first on the socresheet when he shot from a tight angle through keeper Mart Poom’s legs.

Rooney almost ended his goal drought with an exquisite chip before scoring with a deflected shot from 15 yards later in the first half.

But once again, Gareth Barry produced a good solid man-of-the-match performance in the midfield after being preferred to Lampard. It was disappointing to hear the boos Lampard got on 70 mins when he replaced Owen. It was really uncalled for.

Gerrard and Joe Cole wasted a golden chance to score a fourth when they found themselves two-on-one against the Estonia defence but made a complete hash of it. Gerrard just didn’t seem to have the confidence to shoot in the situation.

All in all, a good 3-0 win.
