Coventry won 2-0 against the united youngsters last night at Old Trafford, knocking them out of the Carling Cup. Sir Alex Ferguson was left “flabbergasted” by his young side’s performance.

Ferguson said: “I did not expect that at all. I am not interested in giving reasons or mitigating circumstances.”

“We have trumpeted these young lads a lot, so what has happened tonight was a big shock for us all.”

“We didn’t cope with the battle at all - it was just a very bad performance.”

Before the game Rooney was pleading to play, but Ferguson left him out, giving the “less famous” youngsters a chance to show what they have got. Obviously they didn’t have enough, or suffered from stage fright on the night!

we are very very disappointed. Sir Alex should consider his brilliant player to play, not just to field fresh and lack of football skill and experience to show off for this knock out competition.
